Glaze Vase
Glaze Vase

I have a small 5-1/4" tall Doulton Lambeth 1887 vase. Anyone know where I can appraise this?
This vase has a single handle. It has dark blue flower & leaf patterns around its center body. This is surrounded by a beige area that has what I would crudely call sets of four circles filling in the open space. This is then framed with whited raised glaze simulating beads. These are forming diamond shapes and what I would call a zigzag closure. This is very beautiful. I can send a photo when required. Thank you for any help
Good morning,
I do not have any book of initials, but the base has what looks like a small "r" deeply inset and a few other light scribblings such as "933", a "632", a "V" with what looks like a line over it and going down its right side as well as an "X" with what looks like the pii symbol to its right. Does this mean anything to your knowledge? If not, what is the name of and where can I obtain this book of markings?
Thank you,
Doulton Lambeth (before it became Royal) is collectible, but there are a lot of small pieces around. Does it have any initials on the base? Some decorators are more desirable than others. I saw a large oil lamp go for about £600 on a Bargain Hunt programme the other day, but the smaller cruder pieces only go for a few pounds. (I have a book with all the makers' initials, if you have them)
My book is very old, and a new book would probably be worth more than the vase. V could be Bessie M. Varney. But there are also a number of code strokes similar to what you describe with the X and the pi, but there isn't one listed exactly as you describe. It's certainly worth taking to show someone, or sending a photo to the Keeper of English Ceramics, Victoria & Albert Museum, South Kensington, London SW7 (i've always found them helpful with my own stuff).
